At Fields Cadillac Jacksonville, we have a wide selection of crossover and traditional SUVs. There are many different types of these vehicles, for an array of different needs. Let’s take a look at the difference between a Cadillac crossover vs. SUV.

Crossover vs. SUV

The main difference between a crossover and a traditional SUV is their size and shape. With the same base as a standard car, a crossover is light and compact. However, it’s built out to give you all the SUV amenities you would expect. On the other hand, a traditional SUV is built on a truck chassis, making it heavier and sturdier.

Crossover Platform

A crossover is built atop what’s called a unibody, where the body and frame are built into a single piece. This gives the vehicle a lighter overall weight, a more comfortable ride, and better fuel efficiency.

They may be lighter, but crossovers are still solid when it comes to towing. The starting range is 1,000 pounds, and they can haul up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The Cadillac XT4 is a great example of a compact crossover — one we proudly sell at our Florida Cadillac dealership.

SUV Platform

Traditional SUVs, on the other hand, are built on a truck chassis and are much heavier. The SUV platform is a body-on-frame design, which refers to the method of building the body and frame separately, and then joining them together during manufacturing.

A full SUV can haul some serious payloads. The Cadillac XT6, for example, can handle up to 4,000 pounds when fully equipped. Traditional SUVs definitely drive more like a truck than a car, but the power and space make up for the lesser maneuverability.
