With the right Cadillac service, you’ll be able to keep your vehicle safe and efficient, no matter where the next adventure may take you. That’s why our team at Fields Cadillac Jacksonville offers everything you need to protect and maintain your vehicle, and why we’re sharing top tips for emergency service, like how to change a tire on the go.

Get to Safety

The number one thing you want to do when you get a flat tire is to get to a safe location. Pull out of the way of traffic, ideally to a flat surface, and put on your hazard lights to inform other drivers that you are there. You’ll also want to chock the wheels to keep the vehicle in position.

Loosen the Lug Nuts

If your vehicle has a hubcap or wheel cover, remove that first. Then, loosen the lug nuts using your lug wrench. You don’t want to remove them all the way, however.

Raise the Vehicle

Place your jack into position under a solid metal part of the frame, then raise the vehicle off the ground so you have about six inches of space between the road and the flat tire.

Remove and Replace the Tire

Remove the lug nuts the rest of the way, then remove the flat tire. Replace it with the spare tire and then place the lug nuts back into position in a star pattern. Tighten them by hand as much as you can.

Lower the Vehicle

Lower the vehicle until the tire is touching the road surface, but the jack is still supporting the vehicle’s weight. Using the lug wrench, tighten the lug nuts the rest of the way, then lower the vehicle to the ground. Put your flat tire in your storage area and visit our service center in Jacksonville to get a brand-new replacement tire or a full set.
